Specific orders for how it is to be done.
Do not confuse Tithes AND offerings. They are not the same.
A Tithe is ten percent of all increase. An offering is any additional amount chosen and given willingly. Ex. 35:5 … Luke 6: 38 … 2 Cor. 9:7.
SOME OBJECTIONS THAT WE OFTEN HEAR ALL OF WHICH ARE FALSE.
- That Tithing was under the Law of Moses and is not applicable now.
- That Tithing is an Old Testament concept and not taught in the New Testament.
TRUTH
Abraham lived many years before the Law of Moses was given. Abraham paid tithes as did his grandson, Jacob. Gen. 14:20 … Gen.28:22.
In the New Testament Jesus, our highest authority, said we should pay tithes. Matt. 23:23.
When Paul speaks of laying by in store on the first day of the week (1 Cor. 16:2 and 2 Cor.9:5-8) he tells us that this is an offering for the poor… and not tithes. Romans 15:26.
“A horrible dream...I dreamed that the Lord took my weekly contribution to the church, multiplied it by ten, and turned this amount into my weekly income. In no time at all, I lost my furniture, and had to give up my car. I could not even make a house payment. What can a person do on $10 a week?”
